about

Here it is, the big hit album! Our 2009 CD, THIRTEEN!, was the one that everybody seemed to "get". This is vocal-and-big-guitar extravaganza, chock full of sort, accessible compositions and tight playing.

"To describe Vacuum Tree Head’s music is totally impossible, maybe “Henry Cow on a rollercoaster ride” comes closest. Their musical approach apparently differs from album to album, but in this case, even changes within their musical miniatures which never make it over three minutes. Sylvia Gordon and Lucy Foley are in charge of the vocals, giving the music something like a thread, although stylistically the collective is jumping into the most unlikely directions: punk, rock, prog, avant-garde, klezmer, Bollywood, atonalism, electronica and much, much more!...The great thing about Thirteen! is that despite there being more styles than minutes, it never sounds disjointed, but rather like one twenty minute long sonic journey throughout music history, in an unbelievably condensed way that would even leave a Mike Patton speechless. Some people might find themselves at a loss with so many things crammed into such a short record, but those willing to take the step will discover that this album might contain more ideas than their entire record collection. If only more bands were such courageous and exceptional!"
-Disagreement.net

"The compositions are tightly arranged, condensed into a short song format, seemingly informed by punk, RIO, psychedelic rock, world-pop, and just about anything else one can think of. Few of the fifteen cuts last longer than two minutes (with several under one minute), but almost any of them can get stuck in your mind for days after hearing them even once!"
-Peter Thelen, Expose.org

"Music in a blender, sometimes you just grab everything you can find,
pineapples, prog rock, orange juice, female harmonies, some 70’s
guitar, a few drops of old port, ice, warped intergalactic communications,
a Quinn/Martin production filmed in Micronesia but dubbed in Spanish
…and that only covers the first half of the album."
-Thurston Hunger, KFJC

"Picture a cauldron comprising elements of the lighter Zappa, Tubes, U Totem, Ramones, surf pop and the Mission: Impossible soundtrack, and you’ll get a vague idea of the overall sound."

Locust-aktige proporsjoner – tilsvarende lydmengde ville
hos de aller fleste vært tonet over timer.

dog brukt i uvanlige vendinger .
re forskjellige frontvokalister.

Like fullt er temamotivene både fengende og dypttenkte,
hvilket gir musikken sjeldne fargetoner . Mersmak!

-Tarkus Magazine

Zeilen wie A hubris scree and demurrage; inveighed éclat and Myrmidon / Obsequious the lemming line; hidden persuaders within the automaton hören sich denkbar surreal an, oder?

about

vacuum tree head San Francisco, California

Vacuum Tree Head was formed by Jason Berry and Michael de la Cuesta in a garage in south San José, California, in 1989. Inspired equally by punk rock, free jazz, electronic music and modern composition, we recorded in whatever style we wanted, on whatever instrument we could get our hands on, in whichever manner we pleased. VTH ceased operations in December of 2019. ... more
